01Recognised as a pioneer of Nepal’s carbon industry, Nikesh contributed directly to drafting Nepal’s Carbon Trading Regulation, 2082 — the regulatory foundation on which the country’s carbon markets now operate. Under his leadership, Nepal Treasure Carbon became the first privately registered, government-approved carbon project in Nepal’s National Carbon Registry. He previously served in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, forming part of the PM’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly, and played a role in bringing UN Secretary-General António Guterres to Lumbini in 2023. He also organises the World Peace Program series in Lumbini, convening heads of state and UN ambassadors around peace and sustainable development.

Established in December 2024, Nepal Treasure Carbon is part of a wider network with international carbon-market experience dating to 2014.

The wider Treasure Carbon network begins developing carbon-market infrastructure internationally — project development, methodology design and policy consulting for governments, work that would later extend to Nepal.
Singapore Treasure Carbon Tech Ltd is established as the group’s international hub, launching a global carbon fund with a licensed partner the same year.
Nikesh Adhikari plays a role in bringing UN Secretary-General António Guterres to Lumbini — an early marker of the international convening work that would grow into the World Peace Program.
Nepal Treasure Carbon Co., Ltd. is established, licensed by the Ministry of Forests and Environment and the Department of Industries.

Nepal produces only around 0.1% of global greenhouse-gas emissions, yet its people face severe consequences from a changing climate.
Nepal’s NDC 3.0 sets out estimated quantified mitigation costs of US$73.74 billion to 2035, against US$62.92 billion in expected international finance and support, and a stated net-zero CO₂ ambition by 2045.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said the world has much to learn from Nepal’s climate leadership—communities restoring forests, electricity access expanded to 94% of the population by 2023, and international convenings hosted from Lumbini. Public investment and grants alone will not close the financing gap. Credible carbon markets are one tool that can contribute.
